The attack took place at 2:20 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, on North Division Street, said City of Peekskill Police Lt. Jack Galusha.

According to Galusha, officers responded to the area for a report of an assault with a knife and found a victim had been slashed with a box cutter.

Arriving officers stopped John Rutledge, 33, of Peekskill, who matched a description as he was walking away from the nearby scene, Galusha said.

After making a positive identification, Rutledge was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.

Galusha said the victim and Rutledge may have been in a dispute just prior to the slashing.

The victim received a laceration to his wrist and was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

Rutledge was remanded to Westchester County Jail. He is due to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 18.
